fall arrest netting
Classification
The manufacturing standard BS EN 1263-1 regulates the application and installation of construction safety nets in the UK. All nets supplied by Ultimate Access are manufactured to this standard. The standard specifies four classes of net with maximum mesh sizes and energy acting on the net, Ultimate Access standard safety nets are A2 classification, 2.3 kJ rated. The nets are manufactured with a unique serial number and removable test meshes, a certificate of conformity is supplied with each net.
Specification
- High tenacity polypropylene
- Knotless construction
- 5mm (approx) diameter twine
- 100mm mesh size
- Tensile strength of mesh 3.2kN
- 12mm border rope / ties 30kN break strength
- Debris mesh (optional) 36kg burst strength
Installation
Standard safety nets should be installed with "sag" approximately 10% larger than the installation area, this is to help displace the energy when a load (falling person) is applied. Standard safety nets should be installed as close as possible to the working platform, the falling distance should never exceed 6 metres. Other measures of protection should be considered at this height such as hand rail protection, nets in this position are considered guarding the hazard rather than arresting a fall. The safety nets should always be installed with sufficient clearances to the underside to ensure protection to the person in the event of a fall. The nets should be only tied directly to structural elements with ties supporting the nets at maximum centres of 2 metres. Standard safety nets should only be installed by FASET trained personnel.
